This month will probably be a slapdash combination of Rising Sand concepts, gestures, and commissions, which I'm planning on beginning this week.

Also trying to work out a breathing apparatus that doesn't obscure the mouth but also doesn't look silly. I have yet to succeed.

Have you tried putting it on the throat? Intubated broach style?

Fuckin' A Ty these designs are so good. I really love the one armed thrall. Skull waistband really does it for me too.

Right now the breathing apparatus reminds me of catfish mustache. I do not see that as a bad thing.

I'm attracted to the lines where her head is shaved. Kind of reflects the desert. Or wood.

Maybe something Abe Sapien style that fits around her neck? You could even have it conform to her armor when that's all assembled. She wears armor right? She looks like she wears armor.

Kort / Dan is: Maybe the neck is something worth exploring, but Ro's situation is not unique; this is a species-wide thing. So it has to be something that isn't so much permanent as something really convenient to take on and off. Abe has that neck brace because he has gills.

It'd be kind of cool if the apparatus were connected directly to their lungs through the chest. Maybe some sort of implant with a plug point?

I gave up long ago trying to make my pencils/roughs look clean. I've got a heavy Glen Keane type hand and I've just learned to work with it, haha.

If you're trying to design a breathing aid, think about how it's exactly helping a person get oxygen (is it a filter, pump, etc?) and think about unconventional places like Matt mentioned. Who says it has to be through the nose? Maybe it's a throat tube, or a ring that sits on top of some little filters attached to your neck. Fun thing about fantasy tech is you can really make up something bizarre because maybe they've been invented and are really common in that world.
